The 10th annual event formerly known as:

The Second Stage:

A note from Jean:
Hi guys, the 2nd stage slots are first come, first "play". I am not holding any slots. I just want it to be fair for all of musicians that will be coming to the burning man that may not know about the 2nd stage until they arrive, or that do know about it and don't know how to reach me. If i do it for 1, I have to do it for everyone. I don't want anyone to think I played favorites. This is the method we used when i worked at caffe da vinci for open mike nights and it worked very well. I will be hanging the sign-up list before the first 1st stage band plays at noon. The sooner you get here the better chances of the time slots you want being available. Definitely let your friends and families know what the time slots are. I know that there are going to be many musicians that will want to sign up so this is the easiest way to handle that. I know that we talked briefly at CHX about the HYLOT playing and Sooz's daughter Chelsea playing. I hope I didn't imply that I was holding time slots for anyone. If I did please forgive me.

There are seven time slots with up to 30 minutes of playing time. They have 45 minutes to break down their gear and take it off the stage while the 1st stage band plays. It would be nice if it could be a "communal" stage, "the sharing stage". Anyone that would be willing to let the other bands use mics, amps, etc., would help make setup time quicker which means longer playing time. No band or musician is obligated to play a full 30 minutes. they can play up to 30 minutes, so you can definitely share a time slot with other musicians. (again spread the word to friends and families on what time the 2nd stage bands can play, to ensure you get the time slot you want). Each band, musician or performance artist must have their name on the list if you are sharing time slots. It is up to the musicians in that slot to decide how the stage time will be divided. This will help keep everybody happy. I think it is fair if friends or family sign the sheet, before noon the day of burning man, on behalf of a band that would like to play, in case they can't get there before the 1st stage band starts at noon. For example if Sooz wants to sign her daughter up in one of the time slots before noon, the day of burning man she can. dig?

It is the responsibility of the musicians to get to the 2nd stage on time. Chip will announce who is playing on 2nd stage, but won't be giving out reminders of who needs to be at 2nd stage at what time. If you miss your chance to play, you go to "the end of the line" after all the musicians have played their respective time slot. Please be thoughtful to the fact that all the bands are on a pretty tight schedule, everyone needs to be very efficient with their time. Please be on time both starting and ending your session.

I need to find out if there is a stage curfew after the man burns. If no curfew is enforced, than it would be up to individuals to decide on how to share the stage. The sign-up sheet time slots end at 9:00. I think that the last band on second stage should be from 8:30-9:00 pm, then Charlie Gear plays at 10:00. the last band on the 1st stage starts playing at 10:45 pm. this will give charlie 45 minutes to play and every one a break to watch the man burn.

the time slots are as follows;
1:00pm-1:30pm
2:15-2:45
2:45-3:15
4:30-5:00
6:00-6:30
7:15-7:45
8:30-9:00
10:00 the man burns!

Please do not promise anyone a time slot unless you are sharing the stage time, or you are signing the sheet for a friend or family member. All of these times will "go with the flow", so we must as well. Of course they are subject to change if any delay or 1st stage cancelation may happen. I basically want everything to be as easy as possible so I am not consumed with 2nd stage during the event. If i am, I will hide. 2nd stage's motto is; one love, keep the vibe irie.

Peace,
Jean
